Unveiling the Future of Luxury: The All-Electric Cadillac Celestiq

In a world where luxury is defined by more than just exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship, Cadillac continues to refine what it means to experience true elegance on the road. With General Motors’s pledge to have a strictly-electric lineup by 2035, the introduction of the All-Electric Cadillac Celestiq is poised to elevate the brand even further, setting new benchmarks for sophistication, personalization, performance, and technology.

The All-Electric Cadillac Celestiq is teaming with firsts for the brand and the industry, both from their Art of Travel Design Philosophy to their innovative Ultium platform. With a starting MSRP of $340,000 before delivery, customization, and other fees, it is set to rival the ICE-powered Rolls Royce Ghost sedan set at $240,000 and the all-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre coupe priced at $420,000. Bentley will also rival the Celestiq with its own electric vehicle that will cost more than $270,000.

How the Cadillac Celestiq is Designed Differently

As part of the all-electric pledge, GM and Cadillac introduced the Art of Travel philosophy. This considers the entire encounter with the vehicle, from visual presence to the rich feel of its components and the choreographed experiences. This philosophy is meant to lead all design efforts, offering a tailored approach to every experience an owner has with their car that makes common elements feel personal.

With this in mind, the Celestiq presents a more holistic vision of ultra-luxury, electrified mobility. It will offer an endless range of exterior and interior colors, as well as materials and finishes enabling clients to design a unique vehicle for them. The client is involved in every decision when it comes to the colors and materials, including the ability to design new colors or paint in collaboration with Cadillac’s design team.

What the Celestiq Exterior Comes With

Cadillac states that the Celestiq is about “embracing the avant-garde”. It looks futuristic, sporting a bold grille and vertical lighting signatures that flow into a sloping windshield. Every metal surface on the exterior is real metal: the aluminum grille, brushed aluminum bodyside, Aluminum eTrunk™ lining, rocker, taillamp and headlamp tim, and brushed metal liftgate body openings. The Goddess Trim also features a unique crystal element to house premium LED lighting.

The exterior lighting is also designed to rival its competitors like Tesla. The Celestiq begins when the client is about 15 feet away from the car and it can detect the key fob. It welcomes by illuminating the front Cadillac Crest before light cascades from the middle of the black crystal shield grille to the headlamps—like the vehicle is powering up.

What the Celestiq Interior Looks Like

Each Celestiq is personally commissioned, which means each client will work directly with their selected dealer. Aiming for a clean, minimalist aesthetic, the client-selected hand-wrapped materials, immersive interior lighting, and embellishments embody Cadillac’s vision for exclusivity and customization.

  • 115 3D Printed Parts: The steering wheel center is the largest metal part GM has printed in production. The seat belt adjustable guide loops is GM’s first safety-related 3D printed part. Other parts also include window switches, grab handles, console decor, and structural pieces under the vehicle’s surface.
  • Flex Fabrication: There are over 300 fabricated pieces throughout the body structure. The chassis, interior components, and electrical components all utilize metal sheets that can be folded and manipulated into the unique shapes required for the Celestiq’s design.
  • Infotainment: The interior system is a pillar-to-pillar, 55-inch diagonal advanced HD display with two separate screens under a single pane of glass. It shows the driver shared vehicle information and also enables each passenger to play media, use internet capability, connect smartphones, and more.
  • Smart Glass Roof: On the roof of the vehicle, Cadillac has equipped the Celestiq with fixed glass that can be customized to each passenger. Each will be able to set their own preferred level of roof transparency in their quadrant, and the driver will also be able to set the transparency of all four quadrants at once.

What is the GM Ultium Platform?

This concept is the foundation of Celestiq’s performance and range, serving as the structural element of the vehicle. It is specifically an electric vehicle platform built on a flexible battery architecture for the production of EVs across different vehicle types.

What is the Celestiq’s All-Electric Capabilities?

The Celestiq’s Rolls-Royce competitor, the Spectre, comes with a 102-kWh battery which is good for a 260-mile EPA range. The Celestiq has a 111-kWh battery pack with an estimated driving range of 300 miles on a full charge. It is equipped with a 200 kW DC fast charging system, capable of adding up to a Cadillac-estimated 78 miles of range in only 10 minutes of charging. As part of the Ultium platform, the Ultium Charge 360 is a renewed approach to EV charging, granting access to more than 110,000 publicly available charging points in the US and Canada. With the myCadillac Mobile App, drivers will be able to find nearby charging stations, see real-time charging availability, plan routes, start charging sessions, and more.

As for the engine, the Celestiq two motors make a combined 600 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. With the all-wheel drive option, it can hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The Rolls-Royce Spectre two motors produce a combined 584 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. With all four wheels, the output returns a 0-60 time in 4.4 seconds.

When Will the Celestiq Be Available?

The first Celestiq is set to enter hand-built production before the end of 2023. Cadillac plans to assemble around two cars per day, but not every single day. Their annual production goal starts at 400-500 examples, but GM said that 18 months of production are already accounted for, which means 600-750 units are in the books as of late summer 2023.
