When a car begins as a trim level and evolves into a separate model in its own right, you know it's destined for greatness. The Cadillac DeVille was just such a car, across all eight of its generations. It came out in 1959 as an inspiration by the 1949 Coupe de Ville two-door hardtop. It would end its run with the 2005 model year, followed by a 2006 renaming as Cadillac DTS.
Of course, it'd share the spotlight with many other Cadillac cars over the years, among them the celebrated Cadillac Eldorado and Cadillac Sixty Special. After 1965, for instance, it'd compare to the Cadillac Calais, whereas, after 1977, it would take its place alongside the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. By 1985 and later, the Cadillac Fleetwood and Cadillac Series 75 would join it, as would Cadillac Seville after 1994. By 2005, it would be Cadillac DeVille incarnate: a full-size sedan and the largest car under the Cadillac crest at the time. One thing's for sure: its legacy would be one we wouldn't forget.
The 2005 Cadillac DeVille was equipped with a Northstar V8 engine that worked with a four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Amenities included anti-lock disc brakes, the GM StabiliTrak electronic stability system, 16-inch wheels, satellite radio, navigation, wiper-activated halogen headlights, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, keyless remote entry, and OnStar.
