While many were familiar with Chevy's C/K naming convention, the automaker switched to R/V for these last third-generation models to avoid confusion with the new, fourth generation C/K pickups that were made on the GMT400 platform and already at dealerships. The "R" in the name represents the fact that the SUV was equipped with a two-wheel drivetrain, while the 2500 noted the three-quarter-ton size.
