The GMC C2500 Pickup originally released in the 1950s, but if you're driving one today, most likely, it's from between 1984, just after the middle of the third generation, and 2000, when it went out of production.
The "C" in the truck's model name indicates it has a two-wheel drivetrain, while the "2500" indicates that it's either a three-quarter-ton or one-ton size, depending on which generation it is. The trims available early on included base, High Sierra, and Sierra Classic; later in the run, four others -- Sierra SL, SLE, SLT, and SLX -- were offered. You could get one of several gas and diesel six-cylinder, V6, and V8 engines, the last in a compressed natural gas (CNG) variant. Features available over the years ranged from a four-door crew cab and leaf-spring rear suspension to a dual rear-wheel configuration.
In 1987, GMC renamed the line with an R prefix, temporarily distinguishing it from a fourth generation being sold at the same time. It even became the GMC Sierra Classic late in its career, until discontinuation.
