The GMC K1500 Pickup line of trucks originally came out in the 1950s. Driving one today? There's a good chance it's from between 1984 and 1999 -- that is, from the middle of the third generation to the end of the fourth. The "K" indicates that the model has four-wheel drive (4WD), while the "1500" indicates that it's either a half-ton or a three-quarter-ton size, depending on the generation.

Trims varied widely over the years. Initially, you could get base, High Sierra, or Sierra Classic trims. In 1988, Sierra, Sierra SLE, and Sierra SLX were available. There was even a Sierra Sport trim offered in 1993, not to mention Sierra SLT and Sierra Special trims in 1994. By 1995, Sierra SL and Sierra SLS trims had joined the lineup.

The pickups had one of several engines: either a six-cylinder, a V6, or a V8, the last available in a diesel variant. Features from a four-door crew cab to a dual rear-wheel configuration were also options. In 1987, the line was temporarily renamed, using an R prefix to distinguish it from a fourth generation on sale at the same time. The model was also briefly called the GMC Sierra Classic until its discontinuation after 2000.
